Postdoctoral Research Associate Position in Ultrasound-mediated Drug and Gene Delivery Research and Ultrasound Bioeffects

Position Description:

A highly motivated candidate with strong experimental experience in the areas of biophysics, biomedical engineering, biomedical ultrasound, or pharmaceutical science is sought for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Center for Ultrasound Molecular Imaging and Therapeutics at the Heart and Vascular Institute, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA. The candidate will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Flordeliza S. Villanueva, MD, Director of the Center.  A major project focus involves the application of ultrasound and ultrasound contrast agents for gene and drug delivery in cardiovascular disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease.  There will be an opportunity to investigate various mechanisms of ultrasound mediated therapy, including effects of ultrasound on endothelial permeability in various tissue beds such as the blood brain barrier.  The successful candidate is expected to work independently and collaboratively with the members of the Center, including faculty of different backgrounds, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and technicians.


The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in biophysics, biomedical engineering, biomedical ultrasound, or pharmaceutical science, or have equivalent experience in related fields.  Applicants must have significant background and experience with confocal live cell imaging, endothelial biology, and cell culture.  Experience in biomedical ultrasound and with ultrasound contrast agents, although not mandatory, would be an advantage.  Candidates must also demonstrate scientific communication skills and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
