Army Futures Command (AFC) is standing up a System Integration and Architecture cell to drive collaborative innovation across the Army’s ecosystem of programs and R&D. This cell will bring together, in Austin TX, a core team of AFC staff as well as dedicated thought leaders from across our nation’s FFRDCs, UARCs, and leading innovative companies. JHU/APL is seeking a Systems Engineer with a strong technical background in communications and networking. This Systems-of-systems thinker will work collaboratively with the team to identify and solve technical challenges associated with achieving Multi-Domain Operations (MDO). The team will work with, by, and through the programs and offices across the Army to ensure new technology introduction creates synergy across programs, maintains interoperability, and provides advancement towards the MDO vision. This is a key position helping drive strategy, investment, and technical innovation in a four-star command.
In this exciting role you will bring your expertise to solving the toughest technical challenges facing the achievement of the MDO. Your responsibilities include conducting strategic analysis, systems engineering, and technical studies to assist Army Futures Command in resolving strategic, operational, and technical issues with a focus on communications and/or network systems. You will be charged with solving the toughest technical challenges to system-of-systems integration through requirements development, technical analysis, prototyping, and experimentation. Your innovative solutions will ensure current and future operational needs are met by incorporating the most appropriate technologies, considering new technologies for future program development, and providing guidance to drive proper systems integration.

You meet the minimum qualifications for this position if you have:
MS degree in electrical engineering, computer science, systems engineering, or closely related discipline, with at least 5 years of relevant technical experience.
Strong systems engineering background related to wired and wireless network architecture, network modeling and simulation, network operations, network engineering, or communication systems engineering.
Flexibility to examine and analyze problems outside one's core area of expertise.
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills. Ability to effectively lead small teams and brief both technical and non-technical audiences.
Able to perform limited travel and work at sponsor site in Austin, TX.
Must have active DOD Secret clearance.
You’ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have:
PhD degree in electrical engineering, computer science, systems engineering, or equivalent, with at least 10 years of relevant technical experience.
Experience working on and leading technology efforts for network architecture or network operations design, assessment, analysis of alternatives, or evaluation.
Active top secret clearance.
