WORKING DAYS (FULL TIME FACULTY ONLY), APRIL 1, 2025, at 5:00 PM
 
 10-Month Tenure Track Position


This position will be part of the Bachelor of Respiratory Therapy Program



COMPENSATION:  Initial salary placement ranges from $67,886 to $106,308 based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $142,425.

Representative Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Participate in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Curriculum Development
  • Create a learning environment that fosters student success, using different teaching modalities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
  • Teach in accordance with departmental course outlines and design instructional activities to promote student success.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in program and curriculum development and participate in other departmental meetings and projects.
  • Teach scheduled classes on-campus and in-person and perform related duties as assigned.
  • Serve on academic senate and shared governance committees as necessary to support and enrich instructional programs.
  • Promote the success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Comply with district policies and procedures in the performance of all duties by timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities including holding weekly office hours and being available to assist students as required. 
  • Didactic and clinical instruction, including the potential for 12-24 hours per week of hospital clinical time.
  • ++-Consistent communication with clinical sites to ensure effective student clinical education and Victor Valley College representation.
  • Counseling/advising students.

  • Coordination of career day/health fair activities.

  • Curriculum review.

  • Complying with District policies and procedures in the performance of all duties. 

  • Participating in staff development activities. 

  • Serving on area and college wide committees as necessary to support and enrich college programs, activities, and initiatives. 

  • Demonstrating sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues. 

  • Promoting the success of a diverse student population through the use of effective counseling/advisement methods, models, and strategies and through the use of effective teaching methodologies. 

  • Clinical coordination to include clinical schedule development and clinical contract establishment and continuation as necessary to ensure effective student clinical experience.

  • Participating in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Curriculum Development.  

  • Serving as the Program Director (PD) of Advanced Degree Respiratory Therapy (20% reassigned time for being the PD). The PD must provide effective leadership in developing, conducting, and ongoing assessment of the clinical education program. The PD must be available and accessible (e.g., in-person, phone, or on-line) when students are actively taking professional coursework

Requirements for Program Director of Advanced Degree Program are:

  1. Have a valid RRT credential OR be a physician (MD or DO);
  2. Have a current professional license or certificate unless exempted from licensure under state or federal law;
  3. Have a minimum of four (4) years’ experience as an RRT OR physician (MD or DO) with at least two (2) years must include experience in clinical respiratory care, pulmonary medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, critical care, anesthesiology, healthcare administration, healthcare research, or a subject area directly related to the degree conferred;
  4. Have a minimum of two (2) years’ teaching experience in clinical respiratory care, research, management, education, or a subject area directly related to the degree conferred by the program;
  5. Complete the CoARC Key Personnel Training Program, if applicable.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 

Any bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six (6) years of professional experience OR the equivalent.


Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Accrediting Agency - CoARC minimum requirements Master’s degree from an accredited institution accredited by an institutional accredited by an institutional accrediting agency.

  • PhD degree from accredited institution; Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential

  • OR be a physician (MD or DO); California license Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP); Minimum of five (5) years' experience in RRT

  • OR physician (MD or DO) of which at least four (4) years include experience in clinical respiratory care, pulmonary medicine, cardio thoracic surgery, critical care or anesthesiology;

  • Minimum of four (4) years' teaching experience in clinical respiratory care, research, management, or education associated with an accredited respiratory care program or medical school.* 

    Willingness to teach in online and hybrid educational environment

Knowledge and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Advanced understanding of current scientific knowledge related cardiopulmonary topics.
  • Research experience to include conducting independent research and publishing peer-reviewed papers
  • Data analytics related to medical research
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis related to medical research
  • Grant writing to secure funding for research projects and instructional programs
  • Proficiency in academic software relevant to research, data analysis, presentations, and online learning platforms
  • Experience with curriculum development, implementation and assessment
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and reporting for Respiratory Care Programs.
  • Experience mentoring capstone or research projects.
  • Experience in preparing and delivering formal and informal presentations related to medical science and research.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 
Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.
