Essential Job Duties

The Department of Management, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (MIE) at NC State University’s Poole College of Management invites applications for a Professor of Practice position in People Management (Leadership, Organizational Behavior, Strategic Human Resource Management). This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August 2025. This position follows a 9-month appointment schedule.


Role & Responsibilities
The Professor of Practice will:
  • Teach three class sections (9 credit hours) per semester, covering both undergraduate and master’s-level courses in face-to-face and online formats.
  • Foster relationships with industry partners to create hands-on learning experiences for students through practicum projects, student organizations, and extracurricular activities.
  • Engage with external companies and support experiential learning initiatives.
  • Participate in departmental and college service activities, contributing to student development and program growth.

Other Responsibilities

This position is a .75-1.0 position and involves teaching primarily undergraduate students, although graduate MBA teaching over time is expected. Teach 3 – 4 courses/semester plus significant involvement with SHRM student organization. Significant involvement in embedding students in local, regional and national HR communities

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Requires a doctor’s degree in Management or a related field, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Alternative credentials may be considered for candidates who do not possess a doctorate degree

Other Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must have extensive knowledge of human resource management areas such as compensation, human resource planning, recruitment/selection, training/development, performance management and employee relations.
  • Successful candidate should have significant experience in human resource management positions in private or public organizations, showing increased management responsibility in human resource management areas over time.
  • Demonstrated teaching interest and ability.
  • Extensive corporate leadership and/or consulting experience.
  • A strong commitment to mentoring and coaching students.
  • Interest in contributing to research, case writing, and thought leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior university teaching experience preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in building relationships with HR professionals and student coaching.
