About the Department

NC State is a research extensive land grant institution serving more than 34,000 students and is located in Raleigh, NC, the state capital. This geographical location offers access to major intellectual and cultural resources, including the Research Triangle Park, Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the National Humanities Center. The School Psychology is an APA-accredited and NASP approved Ph.D. program with a NASP-approve MS/CAS program. The Department of Psychology consists of 32 faculty members, the staff of the advising center, the staff of the Psychoeducational Clinic, and the four members of our office staff, as well as over 1000 undergraduate majors and 120 graduate students pursuing their doctoral degrees. The faculty are outstanding scholars, many of whom have won awards for teaching and research and/or are fellows in the major professional societies in Psychology. Faculty have received research grants and training grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes for Health, the National Institute on Aging, the Army Research Laboratory, the Army Research Institute, the Institute of Education Sciences, and numerous companies.

Essential Job Duties

The Department of Psychology in North Carolina State University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Associate Professor position. The successful candidate will have teaching expertise in school psychology and contribute to the department’s mission through research, teaching, and service, including:

  • Conducting high-quality research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Securing external funding through grant writing.
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology.
  • Advising and mentoring graduate students.
  • Supervising graduate students in practicum placements.
  • Contributing to the continued growth and development of the School Psychology program.

Minimum Education and Experience

Ph.D. in Psychology or related field with experience in the field of School Psychology, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Strong research and publication skills 
  • Future research productivity.
  • A strong record of research and publication.
  • Evidence and commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in clinical settings and/or Pre-K through 12 schools.
  • Demonstrated record of publication.
  • Discipline in School Psychology preferred

  • Eligibility for licensure as a health service provider psychologist in North Carolina

Valid NC Driver's License required
