The Executive Director is the chief administrative officer of the OI. The director reports to the Presidential Liaison for Strategic Cultural Partnerships, and works with a nineteen-member staff, plus research fellows in residence, with support from members of the Executive Board and the Council, to administer Institute operations and conduct all Institute scholarly programs and fund-raising activities. Institute programs include publication of the William and Mary Quarterly; publication of books and documentary volumes; postdoctoral fellowships; graduate-level training in historical editing; and conferences & seminars.
The position is a twelve-month appointment. Depending on qualifications, the director may be appointed to a concurrent tenured position on the faculty of the William & Mary with some teaching responsibilities or to an administrative appointment with affiliate faculty status.
