The School of Liberal Arts is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach Composition II during the spring semester, specifically during the fourth quarter. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean College create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds. Adjuncts should be prepared to be flexible regarding teaching format, while we are seeking a face-to-face instructor, there could be the potential requirement to switch from face-to-face to online, as needed in response to conditions. In addition, instructors should be prepared to accommodate students who may need to isolate for a period during the course by providing recorded classes and supplemental engagement outside of class.
We are seeking an adjunct instructor with experience teaching Composition II (ENG 112, 3 credit) during the fourth quarter of the semester. The course is a 7-week quarter course that starts in the middle of March and concludes at the end of April. The adjunct pay rate is $3,200.00/3 contact hour section. It will be scheduled in the evenings to accommodate student schedules. The course will meet for 4.5 hours divided across at least 2 and preferably 3 class meetings per week. Specific schedule is still to be determined. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week virtually for each section they teach. The English program provides a course charter with course objectives as well as sample syllabi. All faculty will be expected to make active use of the learning management system (MyCourses) at least at a minimum level established by the College.

ENG 112: Composition II
This course is a continuation of the two-semester college writing requirement. The coursework continues to emphasize and develop critical thinking and argument in academic writing, and additionally requires independent research writing. The integration of visual elements into formal papers, MLA formatting and documentation, editing strategies, are also taught and reinforced. Prerequisite: C- or better in ENG 111 or permission of the Dean for the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
- A Master's degree in English or related discipline area is required;
- A PhD is preferred;
- College teaching experience preferred, particularly experience teaching first- and second-year undergraduates as well as online;
- Having strong computer skills, the ability to access the Internet, the college's online resources and website and a willingness to be responsive to students via digital tools is a requirement;
- Experience with or willingness to learn Moodle, our learning management system, and classroom media is necessary;
- The successful candidate will possess expertise in learner-centered teaching; use of technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy and the ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles.
