About the Role:
Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: NBIX) seeks a Scientist to join the In Vivo Electrophysiology team withing the Translational Sciences group. The successful candidate will perform experiments and analyze data, especially rodent electroencephalography (EEG), related to neural circuit analysis to support drug discovery programs. In addition, this individual will help develop new in vivo electrophysiology/optical assays and perform pharmacologic/animal model characterization studies to support target validation, lead optimization, translation, and understanding mechanisms of drug action._
Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):Supporting a range of activities, including in vivo and translational research
Design, implementation, and data collection of pharmaco-EEG experiments
Analysis & interpretation of qEEG data (spectral analysis, sleep staging)
Small animal handling/dosing, drug formulation, and tissue collection
Roden survival (i.e., stereotaxic) surgery & behavioral experiments
Interacting with other research areas within the company
Aid in development of novel in vivo electrophysiology/imaging experimental approaches
With proper training, conduct experiments independently on a schedule to meet required timelines
Histology and imaging of slides
This role is divided between lab-based (vivarium) work, and computer-based (data analysis) work
Supporting a range of activities, including in vivo and translational research
BS/BA degree in biological sciences preferably related to behavioral neuroscience, pharmacology or biopsychology and 2+ years of experience in the handling and dosing of rodents in a laboratory setting OR
MS/MA degree in biological sciences preferably related to behavioral neuroscience, pharmacology or biopsychology and some relevant experience preferred OR
PhD degree in biological sciences preferably related to behavioral neuroscience, pharmacology or biopsychology and some relevant experience preferred
Expertise in one or more of the following techniques is required: In vivo electrophysiology (including EEG, LFP, or spikes), in vivo microscopy, microdialysis, fiber photometry, transcranial magnetic stimulation, functional MRI, or functional ultrasound imaging.
Prior experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry desired but is not required
Familiarity with biopharmaceutical technologies, physical and life sciences, product development, and regulatory approval processes is desirable
Experience in programming (Matlab or Python) strongly preferred
Previous experience with stereotaxic surgery, AAV administration and/or mouse colony maintenance and breeding preferred
Recognizes fundamental anomalies in data points and identifies issues in experiments/processes
Begins to understand how to think outside of the technical process and consider the impact decisions will have on the broader scientific goals
Strong knowledge of one scientific discipline
Good knowledge of scientific principles, methods and techniques
Good knowledge and demonstrated ability working with a variety of laboratory equipment/tools
Strong computer skills
Good communications, problem-solving, analytical thinking skills
Ability to meet deadlines
Good project management skills
High level of organization and attention to detail
Willingness and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel
Advanced multitasking, trouble shooting and deductive reasoning skills required

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $86,200.00-$125,050.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 20% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
