POSITION TITLE: Senior Manager, R&D Strategic Finance


POSITION SUMMARY:

We have an exciting opportunity for a R&D Strategic Finance, Sr. Manager. In this pivotal role, you will drive and support the development of financial strategies and related planning, reporting and analysis across Scripps Research Institute's scientific efforts. The successful candidate will have the ability to build strong partnerships with research leaders to influence both strategic decision making and tactical execution, and provide thought leadership for the Strategic Finance and Analysis (SF&A) team.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Drive forecasting, annual budgeting, and long-range financial planning.
  • Provide analyses and strategic direction to ensure Scripps Research Institute's financial commitments are met - internally and externally.
  • Develop and manage best-in-class forecasting and measurement tools and processes, defining KPIs and deriving insights to inform operational decision-making.
  • Improve performance by evaluating processes to drive efficiencies and/or maximize opportunities in new initiatives / strategic investments and measure results.
  • Support Scripps Research Institute's leadership to evaluate new opportunities and initiatives.
  • Prepare presentations for the Board of Directors, Finance Committee, executive team and senior staff, and perform complex financial analyses on tight deadlines.
  • Details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or similar field, master's degree a plus.
  • 7+ years of financial planning and analysis (FP&A) experience in a biotech/pharmaceutical organization required, venture capital experience a plus.
  • Strong analytic skills and a track record of growing and managing organizations in fast-paced, fluid environments.
  • Ability to understand complex business drivers, develop insights utilizing a data-driven approach and communicate succinctly to a range of different audiences (principal investigators to executives and the Board of Directors).
  • Adept in ambiguous situations, flexible and comfortable making decisions using available data points that can be limited and/or imperfect.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities while effectively managing multiple commitments.
  • Strategic mindset coupled with the ability and willingness to roll up sleeves where necessary and desire to constantly improve the status quo.
  • Experience managing FP&A teams supporting multiple organizations / business units, as well as spearheading and shepherding organizational and / or process transformation.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with proven experience in cultivating cross-collaborative working relationships across an organization and ability to influence at all levels.
  • Track record of building and developing high performing, diverse teams, with a commitment to a culture of collaboration, performance, transparency and integrity.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

May include: Stationary position for an extended period of time, traverse campus/facility as needed, operate machinery such as computer, phone, copy machine; exposure to cold or hot temperatures.

COMPENSATION:

The expected hiring range for this position is $150,500 to $201,450/annually, commensurate with experience.
