General Description
The Academic Coordinator – TRIO Student Support Services is primarily responsible for the coordination and implementation of academic support services within the College’s TRIO program. This position assists the Project Director in developing, implementing and monitoring strategies to improve student’s academic performance and ensure the achievement of program goals and objectives.

TRiO Student Support Services is a grant funded program offering comprehensive services to low-income, first generation college students and students with disabilities. Resources are provided to support students’ graduation and/or transfer from the College to four-year colleges and universities to receive a baccalaureate degree. The TRiO SSS mission ensures this outcome by increasing retention and graduation rates that facilitate this goal.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Assist the Project Director in the development and implementation of program activities.

  • Develop, implement and monitor strategies to improve student academic performance.

  • Coordinate academic support services that will improve program outcomes.

  • Coordinate individual and group academic support for Student Support Services students and maintain records required by grant funding source.

  • Collaborate with instructors, College staff and students in support of program goals.

  • Provide coordination and facilitation of advising and counseling support, orientation, student workshops, mentoring programs, and other co-curricular activities.

  • Provide information to the College community concerning program functioning and goals.

  • Prepare and maintain reports and documents concerning support services activities, student financial eligibility, financial aid support, grant aid support, etc.

  • Assist in the selection process for identifying program eligible student participants.

  • Deliver quality customer service to both internal and external constituents in a professional, helpful and courteous manner.

  • Maintain strictest standards of conduct and confidentiality regarding student records in compliance with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended), Veteran’s Administration, Title IV, PA Act 48, 114 and 335.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Higher Education Administration, or related field is required. Any and all degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

  • Minimum of two (2) years experience working directly with underrepresented youth in a student support program required.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills required.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel required.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and students in all divisions of the College required.

  • An understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Previous experience in a TRIO program preferred.

  • PowerPoint is preferred.

  • Proficiency using Banner is preferred.
