Position description

The Department of Pathology at the University of California San Diego (http://pathology.ucsd.edu) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body, and is seeking research faculty in computational biology, biomedical informatics, and/or data science.

Computational and data science is a rapidly growing area, linking many different aspects of clinical, translational, and basic research. Within Pathology, this includes not just analysis of big "omics" datasets, but integration with patient data, including diagnostic tissue- and clinical laboratory-based test results.

The Department is comprised of 65 faculty members and is currently ranked 14th among Pathology departments in NIH funding, with active research programs in perinatal biology, microbiome, cancer immunology, and neurodevelopmental biology. The Department is interested in candidates who have demonstrated commitment to research excellence and participation in teaching, research, service and building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.

Selected candidates will have a focused area of research, while also interfacing with the UC San Diego Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics and the Graduate Program in Bioinformatics to enhance the Department's capacity for collaborative research and teaching. The successful candidates will benefit from the highly stimulating and collaborative environment within the department and the institution. Duties will include teaching, and conducting collaborative "team" science and clinical, translational, and basic research efforts.

The appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level and will be based on the candidate's background and experience. Series will include 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding or 100% Ladder Rank.
