Reporting to Professor Lee Rubin, Dept of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology and the Harvard Stem Cell Institute, the candidate will collaborate with a team of researchers (scientists, postdoctoral fellows and research assistants) who will use small molecule and cell-based therapies to target skeletal muscle disorders. Experiments will involve in vitro cultures of mouse and human muscle, and standard molecular and cell biological techniques including immunohistochemistry, qPCR, and Western blotting. In addition, single cell RNAseq and ATACseq methodology will be employed. Finally, studies will be carried out using mouse models of skeletal muscle diseases.

More specifically, scientist will:

  • With the PI, plan overall research goals, set timelines for multiple projects, and independently execute research plans with lab personnel.
  • With expertise in extensive range of complex in vitro and in vivo assays, guide cell production, modify and/or develop new protocols, procedures, techniques or applications of technology; integrate new findings in the field.
  • Design, with individuals or research teams, assays that optimally reflect relevant cellular behaviors. Screen chemical and other types of libraries to identify screening

PhD in developmental biology, neuroscience, molecular biology, or biochemistry and 7+ years of experience (including postdoctoral research) are required. Animal husbandry experience is required
Prior experience in skeletal muscle biology is required. Experience in maintaining mouse and human ES and iPS lines and in producing and maintaining differentiated cells, such as muscle satellite cells. Knowledge of high content screening, general familiarity with liquid handling robotics and reporter gene assays. Ability to interact with bioinformaticians. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work with a multidisciplinary group of scientists in a dynamic team environment. Ability to tackle multiple projects simultaneously is essential. Supervisory experience and experience mentoring students/trainees is strongly .
