What You Will Do
The Applied Computer Science Group (CCS-7) in the Computer, Computational and Statistical Sciences Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is recruiting a highly motivated post-doctoral research associate. The successful candidate will develop cutting-edge methods for the analysis and visualization of 2D and 3D genomics data, with an emphasis on integrating different types of data in an interactive, web-based application.
This position is part of a research project seeking to advance the science and technology of genome mapping by developing novel genomics analysis and visualization capabilities. Our goal is to deploy them to discover fundamental cellular functions that are hijacked by viruses to cause disease.
The fundamental research will involve: (1) development and implementation of novel methods of integrating and visualizing standard genomics data types with 3D simulation-driven data, and (2) developing an interactive, query-based framework that scientists can use to discover new properties of genomics data.
The successful candidate will be expected to work in an interdisciplinary team environment and collaborate with LANL experts in epigenetics, virology, genomics, bioinformatics, and visualization.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
A PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or similar discipline, with an emphasis on visualization, informatics or data analysis, or related fields completed within the last four years
Experience in developing interactive data visualization applications with modern web-based technologies for analysis and visualization of 2D and 3D data.
Ability to conduct independent and collaborative research
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks under tight time constraints for effective achievements of project goals
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Experience with open source application development, including continuous integration, unit testing and best practices for high quality software development.
Ability to adapt to new requirements for projects and be flexible to learn new computational tools
Experience in applying data-driven methods on real biological datasets
