Position Title:

Post-Doctoral Fellow – Department of Geophysics

The Opportunity:

The Department of Geophysics at the Colorado School of Mines invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow in machine learning and artificial intelligence.

The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include development and application of machine learning techniques for applications to subsurface monitoring, especially related to CO2 sequestration. All candidates applying for this position should be motivated to work in an interdisciplinary framework.

The candidate will be working with domain-knowledge experts to incorporate theory into the machine learning engine and will also be aided by other faculty in machine learning. The candidate is also expected to work independently and to collaborate on projects within Colorado requiring initiative, strong organizational and communication skills, and respect for project deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related discipline. The candidate should have

  • Strong mathematical/numerical skills with extensive experience in machine learning topics.

  • Excellent programming skills in Python or equivalent languages are required.

Terms of Employment:

The successful candidate will be offered an 18-month full-time post-doc position. The position involves a competitive salary package with associated benefits. The start date is negotiable, starting as soon as 1 May 2020.
