The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar appointment in the Green Catalysis Research Group. Our research group is located in Calgary, Alberta, the energy capital of Canada, where the head office of every major oil and gas company in the country can be targeted, and a fast-growing city that attracts the best and brightest people in the world.
We are seeking highly self-motivated and knowledgeable individuals with a strong background in heterogeneous catalysis and its application in clean energy and environmental control to join the Green Catalysis Research Group (GCRG). The successful candidate will contribute to the success of the GCRG team to develop low-cost catalyst systems with high performances and novel catalytic processes for efficient energy utilization in an economical, renewable, and environmentally-friendly way. We seek individuals holding a PhD in Chemical Engineering (or related discipline), with 5+ years of relevant research and development or work experience in clean energy and environmental control, including:
Thorough knowledge and creative application of fundamental scientific and engineering principles, with strong background in catalysis and reaction engineering
Strong background and proven track record in developing novel process technologies related to chemical production from fossil fuels and renewable fuels and/or hazardous pollutants removal from flue gas generated from fossil fuel combustion
Proficient in catalyst synthesis, characterization, and performance evaluation as well as reactor system design and fabrication
Creative problem-solving and strong critical thinking skills
Understanding of technical and economic implications of novel process technologies on industrial processes, with cost estimation experience desirable
Good at communicating with others and supervising junior group members
Excellent in results dissemination in terms of project progress report, conference oral/poster presentation, invention disclosure, and peer-reviewed journal publication.
To be eligible as a Postdoctoral scholar at the University of Calgary, you must have been awarded a PhD or equivalent degree within five (5) years immediately preceding the appointment. Please review the Postdoc Eligibility Guidelines for more information prior to applying for this position.
