Employment Type Full-time
Application Deadline Open until filled

NIH-funded postdoctoral research positions are available immediately in the laboratory of Karsten Gronert at University of California Berkeley, Vision Science Program, School of Optometry and Infectious Diseases and Immunity Program.

Research in the Gronert Lab is focused on the formation, role and mechanism of actions of lipid mediators in ocular innate/adaptive immune responses and neuroprotection. Primary research projects are focused on newly discovered resident lipid mediator circuits in the retina, astrocytes, neutrophils and lymph nodes that control ocular adaptive immune responses, maintain neuronal homeostasis and protects the retina against optic neuropathy.

There are two main NIH/NEI sponsored projects:

1) characterize a novel neuroprotective network in the retina, define its mechanisms of action and explore the efficacy of amplifying the astrocyte lipid circuit as a novel target for preventing or treating glaucoma.

2) define the regulation of adaptive immune responses and lymphocyte trafficking by resident lipoxins circuits in lymph nodes and explore therapeutic amplification of resident lipoxin pathways as a novel treatment approach for autoimmune uveitis.

The successful candidate is expected to design and conduct experiments, develop methods, analyze results and write manuscripts.

Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent degree be highly motivated, self-driven and have excellent communication (verbal and written) skills.

Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, brief statement of research background and interests and contact information for three references.

Applications and and/ or question should be send to Karsten Gronert (kgronert@berkeley.edu)
