Position Description

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

 

 

 

We are seeking an operations analyst to provide technical contributions and leadership to support continued American undersea superiority. You'll be joining a hardworking team of analysts and operators who apply the latest technology to complex problems supporting the US Navy Sea Control Mission.  We strive to foster an environment of collaboration while working on complex technical challenges that contribute to the security of the United States.

 

 

 

As an Operations Analyst for Undersea Warfare...

 

 

  • Provide analysis and develop tools to advance the state of the art in operations analysis employing a variety of techniques including applications of physics-based simulation, scientific computing, parametric and non-parametric statistical analysis, optimization, information design, data wrangling, data analytics, data visualization, and predictive modeling.
  • Think strategically about the challenges that our organization and sponsors are facing.  Provide forward-leaning solutions to questions that have yet to be asked.
  • Develop analysis plans, lead inter/intra organizational teams, conduct analyses, produce succinct results, and clearly communicate them to executive leadership in both briefing and report formats.
  • Interface with sponsors and other partner organizations with regard to ongoing and potential projects. Act as technical advisor for project and program management at APL.

 

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

 

  • Have a Master’s degree in Operations Research, Statistics, Engineering, Applied Science, Applied Mathematics or other relevant technical discipline.
  • Have at least 5 years’ experience in data analysis with a computational focus to find information in structured and unstructured datasets and demonstrated proficiency with MATLAB or equivalent tools.
  • Have demonstrated analytical, operational, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Are a self-motivated team player with a proven ability to lead small teams
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Are willing and able to travel (i.e.; occasional 2-3 day trips or week long tests) and are willing to work on dynamic projects and have the ability to prioritize a number of concurrent taskings.
  • Have a current Secret clearance and are able to obtain a Top Secret/SCI level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Preference for current SSBI.  Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. 

 

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have a PhD degree in Operations Research, Statistics, Engineering, Applied Science, Applied Mathematics or other relevant technical discipline. 
  • Have ten years’ experience in leading/performing quantitative analyses.  Demonstrated ability to discover features and patterns in data that identifies the characteristics and behaviors of systems or objects.
  • Have experience in the Undersea Warfare domain.
  • Have a current Top Secret security clearance
