Bethany College is seeking qualified applicants for a tenure-track position as a professor of Mathematics in the Department of Physical and Computational Sciences to begin in August 2020. In addition to a mathematics major with several emphases, the department houses programs in chemistry, computer science and cybersecurity, economics, and physics (pre-engineering).
Duties will include teaching twelve credits each semester in a wide range of mathematics courses; from liberal arts math courses to application-based and proof-based major-level courses. Advising undergraduate students and mentoring student research are vital components of this position.
Preferred qualifications include an earned doctorate in mathematics or a related field and experience teaching at the undergraduate level. Additional training in mathematical biology, actuarial science, mathematics education, analytics, or computer science would be advantageous to the position, and align with institutional and programmatic initiatives, but are not required criteria for the position. Bethany actively seeks individuals who would highlight interactions between mathematics and other fields, in addition to providing classical training.
Candidates with a master's degree in mathematics and extensive undergraduate teaching experience, or with ABD status and a plan of doctoral completion will also be considered.
Outstanding candidates holding the Ph.D. may be considered for appointment to the Matthew Quay Ammon Professorship in Mathematics.
Applications should consist of a cover letter, a CV, a statement of philosophy on teaching and undergraduate research, copies of all graduate transcripts, and three letters of recommendation. At least one of these recommendations should address the candidate's teaching experience.
All materials should be sent electronically to firstname.lastname@example.org. Questions about this position may be addressed to the email provided above. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but those applying by 29 February 2020 will be assured full consideration.
