Job Summary

The Dean oversees the essential educational resources and infrastructure to include: instructional program development, instructional professional development, Teaching and Learning Center, instructional assessment/strategic planning, distance learning and learning management system, student course evaluation, student services and instructional website content management, and Learning Resource Center.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree

Minimum of three years of teaching experience in higher education

Computer literate to include word processing, spreadsheet, databases, etc

Effectively manage time and priorities in order to meet established deadlines

Work and communicate effectively with all levels of co-workers and other external contacts

Detail oriented and highly organized

Ability to manage several departments and work cooperatively with staff and students

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and leadership skills

Must possess a valid Texas Driver license, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

Earned Doctorate or willingness to complete

Community College experience

Supervisory experience

Essential Functions

Supervise Learning Resource Center operations

Oversee Teaching and Learning Center

Coordinate faculty professional development

Prepare instructional training modules

Supervise the instructional technology and instructional related website activities

Supervise distance learning activities

Manage online and hybrid course quality control

Prepare budget recommendations and monitor all budget activities

Develop and implement unit assessment plans

Provide ongoing leadership, training, and supervision of staff

Serve on Guided Pathways Steering Committee

Serve on Curriculum Committee as a non-voting member

Serve on General Education/Core Committee

Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time

Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds

Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events

Use of manual dexterity

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

College and general office setting

Duties indoors and some outdoors

Travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town

The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information

The person in this position needs to occasionally move from office to other locations on or off campus

Security Sensitivity
