Position Description

Are you ready to be a technical leader?  If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

 

We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated individual to help us develop and implement a robust test program for advanced flight hardware. You will be working with some of the most talented engineers, scientists, and technicians in the country to support programs vital to the defense of the US and its allies. You will be developing and implementing test architectures for advanced flight hardware, collecting and analyzing test data, and working with customers and senior leadership to help make strategic decisions for a variety of aerospace programs.

 

As a Program Area Environmental Testing Lead...

 

•Your primary responsibility will be developing test architectures for aerospace programs including hypersonics, missiles, reentry vehicles, etc.
•You will coordinate relevant SMEs and interact with senior level leadership.
•You will coordinate with experts in the disciplines of structural, thermal, and dynamics for derivation of requirement predictions for flight hardware survivability.
•You will be familiar with relevant industry standards (SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-810, etc.).
•You will analyze data in support of specification development.
•You will work with senior leadership, customer, and third parties to advocate/negotiate for final testing and evaluation decisions.
•You will participate in data collection activities in the laboratory and in the field.
•You will develop and implement consistent test and evaluation programs.
•You will maintain a knowledge base of historical testing decisions and outcomes.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

 

 

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a related science. Alternatively, have a Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering with knowledge of Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Have 8 years of experience in environmental stress screening, acceptance, and qualification testing of aerospace systems.
  • Have understanding of systems engineering practices and tailoring of environmental test requirements in accordance with military standards and industry practices.
  • Are willing and able to work in a dynamic, evolving environment with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Are able to travel 10-25% of time.
  • Have strong communication skills and an established track record for producing high quality documentation.
  • Are highly organized and committed to data archiving and configuration management.
  • Are able to obtain Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have lead a major test and evaluation activity.
  • Have experience interpreting shock, vibration, and thermal testing requirements.
  • Have participated in the development of industrial testing standards.
  • Take the time to get to know everyone involved with a project.
  • Can effectively motivate people.
  • Have a M.S. or PhD in engineering, physics, or equivalent experience.
  • Have demonstrated leadership experience as a project engineer, systems integration lead, or similar.
  • Hold an active Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
