Group Supervisor, Space Flight Hardware Engineering and Procurement (SEH)-22004 

 

Position Description

If so, we are looking for someone like you!

 

We are looking for a Group Supervisor to lead the SEH Group, responsible for space flight parts engineering, procurement, screening, and qualification, and for an extensive flight parts inventory compliant to all Federal Acquisition Regulations.

 

As the Group Supervisor for the Space Hardware Engineering and Procurement Group, you will...

 

  • Oversee and manage approximately 35 staff in support of spaceflight hardware engineering and procurement tasks, including component engineering, parts planning, procurement, test, parts receiving, kitting, and inventory, and also including space flight parts and materials cost estimating for a fast-paced proposal environment.
  • Spearhead the development of strategic plans for the continued advancement of the Group’s staff and services, and drive maturation of processes and tools relating to all aspects of flight parts processing.
  • Recruit, develop, and oversee a diverse and highly skilled workforce, identify and develop key talent for future leadership roles, and supervise personnel assignments, staff development, and program appointments. 
  • Perform staff planning, business development, and line management functions in support of the Civil Space (CS) and National Security Space (NSS) missions, maintain compliance of the flight parts inventory with all Federal Acquisition Regulations, and effectively interact with laboratory business support organizations to include contracts and property management.
  • Maintain Group infrastructure including laboratories, equipment, and parts and materials stockrooms to ensure they remain relevant to the mission of the space sector, and manage capital, overhead, and training budgets.

 

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications if you have...

 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in business, science or engineering or equivalent experience
  • At least 10-years’ experience in space-related procurement and/or flight hardware development.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Experience with hiring, training, performance management, and coaching staff.
  • Experience with AS9100 compliance. and internal support functions.
  • Are able to obtain Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

 

You will go above and beyond our minimum qualifications if you have...

 

  • A MS, MBA or PhD in business, science or engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Previous APL experience as a Group or Assistant Group Supervisor.
  • Knowledge of NASA and DoD satellite systems and requirements.
  • Experience with APL policies and systems including budgeting, purchasing and business practices. Demonstrated leadership experience at APL.
  • Use of RMIS for project and group management. Proven track record of successfully interacting with government compliance agencies.
