Senior Systems Engineer for Missile Defense Kill Chains (Huntsville, AL)-22118

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with deep knowledge and experience working with Missile Defense Kill Chains to provide technical leadership and apply rigor to the development and evaluation of missile defense.  This position, located in Huntsville, Alabama will work across the broad sponsor base of the Missile Defense Agency and the associated Service Program Office to develop effective system of systems solutions to out-pace the evolving capabilities of adversary nations and organizations.  

 

As the Senior Systems Engineer, you will...

 

  1. Lead and participate in efforts providing subject matter expertise, analyses products, and technical insights into the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA’s) most pressing challenges associated with developing kill chains to address and defeat an evolving set of strategic threats (ballistic, hypersonic, long-range cruise)

  2. Coordinate efforts with the Missile Defense Agency in concert with the larger Integrated Air and Missile Defense community including the Service Elements associated with missile defense from the surface/ground, air, and/or space.

  3. Coordinate with Air and Missile Defense (AMD) Program Management to develop systems engineering teams to address MDA’s most stressing challenges; facilitating and engaging technical experts across APL organizational lines to assure knowledge sharing and technical coordination as well as leverage multi-domain capabilities among the Space, Asymmetric Operations, Force Projection, and AMD Sectors.

  4. Engage with senior leaders within the Missile Defense Agency to apply emerging technical capabilities toward MDA’s pressing challenges through systems of systems engineering rigor.  Example areas may include but are not limited to, a joint systems engineering team to address evolving homeland defense capabilities and/or building an architecture and associated functional allocations to element programs to ensure that MDA paces emerging classes of strategic threats.

  5. Mentor APL staff on the ballistic and strategic missile defense systems and technologies; aiding staff members in building strategic network opportunities with external communities to include the government sponsor base, the industry partners, and other key members of the FFRDC/UARC community.

 

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a MS degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science, or a related discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Have 20+ years of professional experience in the definition, design, and/or integration of complex DoD systems, with a deep understanding of one or more aspects of a kill chain (detect, control, engage)
  • Possess a deep understanding and at least 7 years of professional experience working in Missile Defense for either MDA or the Services

  • Have excellent oral and written communications skills

  • Hold an active Top Secret clearance and are capable of obtaining a TS/SCI.  Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship

  • Are willing and able to work collaboratively within the sponsor facilities and laboratories located in Huntsville, Alabama 

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Possess a PhD degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Have 25+ years of professional experience in the definition, design, and/or integration of complex DoD systems, with a deep understanding of one or more aspects of a kill chain (detect, control, engage)
  • Possess a deep understanding and at least 10 years of professional experience working in Missile Defense for either MDA or the Services
  • Have excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Hold an active TS/SCI.  Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
