Hoa Sen University (HSU) is located in the center of Ho Chi Minh City – a dynamic center of Vietnam and the Southeast Asia region. Founded in 1991, HSU was among the first institutions in Vietnam to recognize and focus on the unique educational needs of a developing society and built a reputation for excellence in vocational and technical education. In 2006, HSU officially became a private university extending its educational offerings to include four-year Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs.
Since its inception, HSU has been committed to quality training to meet the practical needs of business and society. The University currently has six faculties: Economics and Business, Tourism, Foreign Languages, Social Sciences, Science and Engineering, Design and Art. HSU offers academic programs at all levels (technical/vocational, postsecondary, undergraduate and postgraduate) with more than 10,000 students.
Position Description and Duties:
The Dean has responsibility for management and development of staff in 5 academic departments (Accounting and Finance, International Business, Marketing, Management Information System and Business Administration). As Dean, you will be responsible for promoting academic excellence and for assuring that students have access to intellectual and practical experiences to prepare them for future careers. The Dean will be a strong advocate for the Faculty and University and is responsible for creating and strengthening complex internal and external relationships. In this role, you will encourage cross-cultural awareness and understanding and help develop cultural sensitivity within your department. You will uphold the values of HSU’s vision and help to achieve targets set out in HSU’s strategic plan.
The Dean is responsible for fostering and maintaining an environment of high-quality academic teaching, research, and intellectual achievement. Together with the faculty, you will develop long-range plans and implement short-range goals, exercise management responsibility for academic program planning and administration. You will exercise strong leadership and management to deal with personnel matters (replacing/recruiting, disciplining and termination of staff/lecturers), budget monitoring and facilities management. In representing HSU leadership, you must be able to effectively communicate to students, staff and lecturers regarding HSU policies and procedures and directives from the Management Board.
You must meet minimum qualifications: Possession of at least a PhD's Degree in Economics, Commerce, Business Administration, Accounting, Banking, Finance, Education/Teaching/ Training or equivalent; Required at least 5 years of working experience in fields related to this position and have 5 years or more experience in senior leadership positions. We prefer your experience be in an academic or similar setting at the university level or equivalent. You must have demonstrated organizational, time management, people management, fiscal management and administrative skills. You will be able to effectively lead and manage academic and/or administrative staff in an international working environment. With a proven record of planning and management success, you will be able to motivate staff through effective leadership, coaching and mentoring, development, evaluation and rewards.
You will possess strong facilitation skills and have the ability to listen and learn from diverse perspectives. You will also be an action-oriented, entrepreneurial person who is a self-starter, works independently but can also be an active team player. You are a critical and analytical thinker with sound, mature judgment and integrity who is committed to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration. Your personal qualities would include humility, ability to self-reflect and a good sense of humor.
