Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine is seeking qualified applicants for a postdoctoral scholar with the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology. The successful candidate will screen microRNAs, siRNAs, and chemical compound libraries, identify and test drug candidates that restore functions of pancreatic stem cells and beta cells in mouse models of type 1 and type 2 diabetes (monogenic, polygenic, diet-induced, obese and non-obese diabetes), and preform preclinical studies on drug candidates.

Major Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design, real time data analysis, and interpretation of pharmacokinetic (PK), efficacy/toxicokinetic (TK), and pharmacodynamic (PD) preclinical and clinical studies.

  • Carry out in vivo efficacy/toxicity studies using genetically modified mouse models

  • Analyze, interpret, and present PK, PK/PD, and M&S data

  • Write scientific reports and prepare appropriate documentation to support applications for regulatory agency filing (INDs, NDAs).

Required Qualifications

  • PH.D./M.D./Pharm.D. with biological/pharmacology background

  • 2 to 3 years of experience with drug discovery and development in biotech, pharmaceutical companies, or academic laboratories

  • Proven knowledge of in vivo efficacy/toxicity, PK and PK/PD evaluation techniques

  • Appropriate modeling and computer software experience and proficiency in computer programs or PK software; i.e. WinNonlin, NONMEM, or similar.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cell culture and in vitro assay development

  • Prior experience with therapeutic metabolic drug development and genetically modified mouse models
