Postdoctoral fellow position open to conduct a drug discovery and development project for the treatment of cystic fibrosis. The project goal is to characterize, develop, and advance agents that induce translational readthrough of premature termination codons in CFTR, originally discovered through high throughput screening. The major focus is the use of ion transport assays, but also spans traditional molecular biology techniques and animal modeling, with close collaboration with medicinal chemistry and toxicology. The individual should have experience with assay conduct, optimization, analysis, and troubleshooting. Experience with human cell culture and physiologic measures of ion transport are also essential. The position requires work within a multi-investigator team, performing and designing experiments with minimal input from the mentor, writing manuscripts for publication and presentation, and a high level of self-motivation. The successful candidate must be innovative and interested in pursuing an independent research effort upon successful completion of the fellowship. Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree required. Applicants should submit their CV and the names and contact information of three references to Steven M. Rowe, M.D., M.S.P.H., Professor and Director, University of Alabama at Birmingham, 702 MCLM, 1918 University Blvd, Birmingham, Alabama 35294, Tel: 205-934-9640, Fax: 205-934-7593, E-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
