Mentor: Mi Young Kwon, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, University of Alabama at Birmingham  kwon@uab.edu
The laboratory of MiYoung Kwon (http://labs.uab.edu/kwon/) in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to participate in an NIH-funded project.

This project aims to investigate how glaucomatous damage (e.g., a loss of RGCs in the macular) impairs central & peripheral vision and to apply this knowledge to guide the development of effective rehabilitative strategies for enhancing everyday visual function in those with glaucoma. The research will involve psychophysical, eye tracking, retinal imaging techniques (e.g., OCT, AOSLO), and computational investigations in individuals with glaucoma and normal vision. There are also opportunities to learn fMRI, EEG, and the multifocal ERG.

The ideal candidate should have a Ph.D., preferably with a specialization in vision research; proficiency in computer programming (MATLAB/PsychToolBox or Python) and computational/statistical analysis; experience with human visual psychophysics and eye tracking. Experience with retinal imaging techniques (e.g., OCT, AOSLO) or a background in clinical vision would be considered a plus.

The position is available immediately. Initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extension. Pay will follow the NIH payscale.

For more information, contact MiYoung Kwon at kwon@uab.edu. Interested applicants should send (in a single PDF file) their CV, a brief statement of research interests, and contact information for 3 references. Consideration of applications will begin immediately and will end when the position is filled.

The lab is conveniently located in the UAB Callahan Eye hospital clinic, which provides easy access to a variety of patient populations and theoretical/clinical expertise from ophthalmologists, optometrists, vision scientists, and optical imaging/biomedical engineers.
