Post doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Sushant Bhatnagar located in the Comprehensive Diabetes Center at the University of Alabama – Birmingham. Our research focus is on understanding mechanisms in insulin secretion in type 2 diabetes. We seek a highly motivated individual to who can lead the NIH-funded project on understanding the role of tomosyn-2 in regulating the formation of the SNARE complex in insulin secretion by using cell free, cell and animal-based techniques.
Candidates must have a PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology or equivalent field, and prior experience in cell culture and small animal handling. This job classification involves advanced laboratory techniques in the area of molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology. Candidates should exhibit breath of knowledge in experimental design and execution to meet research goals. Understanding of metabolism and experience with protein purification from bacterial and insect cells will be a plus.
The candidate will have opportunities to write manuscripts, grants, mentor students, and present key findings from the project at national and international conferences. Further, candidate will also have multiple opportunities to use his/her efforts to collaborate on multiple projects in our laboratory.
