A post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Selvarangan Ponnazhagan, PhD, in the Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The major focus of research is stem cell and gene-based therapies for cancer-associated bone loss, and non-union bone fractures. Approaches of studies will involve molecular biology, adult stem cells and targeted therapies to improve bone remodeling. Additionally, the role of immune mechanisms in mediating and regulating diverse functions affecting the pathophysiology in these two conditions will be a main focus for modulating them towards a therapeutic goal.
Candidates must have a recent Ph.D. and/or M.D., or equivalent. Priority will be given to qualified candidates with a strong background in cell culture, molecular biology, biochemistry, animal models, and immunology. The candidate will be expected to write and think independently with passion for innovative research. He/she should be able to analyze data and write manuscripts. Salary (with benefits) will follow NIH guidelines commensurate with training and experience.
