An NSF-funded postdoctoral position is available at the Courant Institute for Mathematical Sciences at New York University, with close connections to theĀ  Center for Soft Matter Research .

Description: The postdoctoral researcher will work in the group of Prof. Aleksandar Donev (https://cims.nyu.edu/~donev/ ) on developing fast methods for solving electrostatics and Stokes flow problems involving particles in semi-confined geometries. Examples of physical systems of interest include suspensions of colloids driven by external electric and magnetic fields, lipid membranes, and electrolytes. The candidate will help implement and apply the novel computational techniques to problems of scientific importance, in collaboration with application scientists (including experimentalists) in soft condensed matter physics, chemical engineering, and cell biology. Dates: There is some flexibility in the starting date, and the initial appointment is expected to be for two years.

Qualifications: Candidates should have a PhD degree in a relevant field and have experience with applied and computational mathematics, with a solid background in numerical analysis and scientific computing, and some familiarity with soft-matter physics.
