Job Description:

This Postdoctoral Fellow position is currently available in the Warner Group at the University of Texas at Austin (http://sites.utexas.edu/warner/). The position will be based in the new electron microscope facility (https://sites.utexas.edu/tmielectron/) in the Texas Materials Institute. Transmission electron microscopy will be the primary research focus of the position, with the aim to develop advanced 4D-STEM electron microscopy methods for imaging ‘live’ biological samples, going beyond conventional approaches that normally kill biological samples. The research will explore high speed direct electron detectors combined with scanning transmission electron microscopy for improved low dose and high contrast reconstructive imaging, combined with post-imaging fatality diagnosis. Various sample environments will be explored, including the development of a liquid artificial micro body in-situ holder that replicates the natural biological environments within a transmission electron microscope to study. The project will involve collaborations with researchers with expertise in biological sample preparation and behavior. The goal of the position is to develop new transmission electron microscopy methods, both software and hardware, that can reveal new insights into biological dynamics at the nanoscale with minimal invasive damage.
