Research will focus on full seismic moment tensor determination of small-to-moderate sized events with the goal to improve methods that include realistic estimates of moment tensor uncertainties and parameter trade-offs. Tasks assigned include (i) implementation and modification of moment tensor inversion and 1D and 3D synthetic seismogram calculation codes on High-Performance Computing facilities, (ii) extensive testing and application to synthetic and real datasets, and (iii) validation of 3D reference Earth models in the target area. The selected candidate will write and publish manuscripts from this research and prepare and submit follow-on proposals related to this project.
