The Los Rios Community College District (LRCCD) is the second largest, two-year public college district in California, serving approximatively 75,000 students in the greater Sacramento region. The district’s 2,400 square mile service area includes Sacramento and El Dorado counties and parts of Yolo, Placer, and Solano counties and is comprised of four uniquely diverse colleges-American River, Cosumnes Rive, Folsom Lake and Sacramento City colleges. In addition to each college’s main campus, the district offers educational centers in Placerville, Davis, West Sacramento, Elk Grove, Natomas and Rancho Cordova.

The Los Rios district office is centrally located in the heart of the Sacramento valley. Position Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Resource Development, the Regional Director of Philanthropy will be responsible for the creation and execution of a well-coordinated, strategic development plan to cultivate, solicit, and steward major investments from individuals and corporations in support of the District’s and Colleges’ philanthropic goals and priorities. The Regional Director of Philanthropy is part of a District-wide philanthropy team whose purpose is to nurture understanding and support for philanthropy among its various constituents, including faculty, staff, retirees, alumni, students, volunteers, corporations, foundations, and the community in order to raise support for our students, faculty, and college programs.

Assignment Responsibilities

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
● Collaborating with the Associate Vice Chancellor of Resource Development (AVC), in the development and oversight of a strategic plan to develop and sustain major gifts to meet established annual campaign goals and other District and College fundraising priorities.
● Serving as a region-wide major gifts officer in the Sacramento area. Working on raising major gifts for District-wide and College-based fundraising initiatives, especially those determined to be high-priority by District leadership.
● Serving as the lead fundraiser for the Los Rios Promise Campaign; focus on raising major gifts from individuals and corporate donors to support students across the District.
● Serving as a regional major gifts officer and leading the effort to expand the major gifts program, growing the prospect portfolio, and increasing the number of proposals in our pipeline.
● Supporting comprehensive fundraising strategies that include all stages of major gift development: identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, to engage donors and prospects in long-term relationships with the Los Rios Colleges Foundation and the four Los Rios colleges.
● Working with the AVC to help establish major gifts fundraising and activity goals in collaboration with College Directors of Donor Relations.
● Mentoring and helping provide major gifts training to College staff as needed.
● Acting as the major gifts point person for the District to ensure that solicitations are coordinated, donors are asked for appropriate gifts, and their gifts meet the strategic needs of the District/Colleges.
● Working with the AVC and College Directors to promote legacy giving cultivation, solicitations, and stewardship.
● Working with the AVC, Los Rios Colleges Foundation board chair, board members, major gifts committee chair, and volunteer leadership to develop and implement regional board solicitations and stewardship.
● Researching and managing a full portfolio of major and legacy donors and prospects, focusing on attracting gifts in excess of $10,000 (or the defined major gift threshold), including overseeing and developing written cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans, and utilizing a moves management approach to engage prospects and donors.
● Staffing major gifts committee and other committees as assigned.
● Recruiting, motivating, and providing leadership to volunteers.
● Cultivating strong relationships with influential individuals and corporations in the donor/prospect communities.
● Working with the AVC and appropriate District and College leadership to identify approved potential programs and projects for major gift support that align with Los Rios priorities.
● Participating in the development of cases for support, and all the proposals and materials needed to successfully raise major gifts.
● Acting as a source of information about the Los Rios District and college priorities, programs and impact of gifts, grants and sponsorships for corporations

● Accompanying senior leadership (e.g., Chancellor, Presidents, AVC, and Deans) and board volunteers on individual and corporate visits.
● Managing multiple projects and working under timelines to meet deadlines.
● Working independently.
● Gathering and analyzing data to ensure effective operations and budget and report preparation.
● Utilizing current technology, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Raiser’s Edge (or comparable software).
● Maintaining ethical standards appropriate for the position, including a respect for confidentiality of donor information.
● Actively using Raiser’s Edge to record contacts with individuals, corporations, and foundations, and to maintain accurate and timely donor records for donor stewardship, reporting and moving donors up in their giving levels.
● Hiring, training, and supervising staff.
● Representing the District on appropriate committees.
● Performing other duties as assigned.

The administrative assignment may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off campus work and/or hours.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Have a master’s degree from an accredited institution completed by XXXXXXX; OR, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and three years of additional professional experience which would justify the waiver of the master’s degree.

2. A minimum of three years of leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment.

3. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.
