The Center for Climate Systems Research in the Earth Institute at Columbia University is accepting applications for a post-doctoral researcher in aerosol and cloud microphysical parameterizations. This position is part of the Aerosol Cloud Meteorology Interactions Over the Western Atlantic Experiment (ACTIVATE) NASA Earth Venture program, which aims towards a better understanding of aerosol – cloud interactions, through the use of measurements obtained from an aircraft campaign. A related focus is on advancing the parameterizations of physical processes essential to improving aerosol – cloud interactions, including aerosol microphysical processes, droplet activation, and cloud microphysical processes. Specifically, the project will examine and develop new analysis techniques to bridge the scale mismatch between aircraft measurements and large-scale climate models through large-eddy simulations (LES) and a single column model (SCM) representation of the climate model column physics.

Specific job duties and responsibilities will include:
Synthesizing a broad suite of atmospheric measurements (in situ and remote sensing) that characterize aerosols, clouds and meteorology, to devise case studies to drive large-eddy and single column model simulations.
Running simulations and analyzing results from a suite of models, ultimately improving physical parameterizations in models.
Supporting the flight planning mission team.
Work closely with other scientists on the project.
Publish peer-reviewed articles and
present findings at national and international meetings.
