A Postdoctoral Scholar position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Nicole Brogden, PharmD, PhD, in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Experimental Therapeutics. A highly motivated postdoctoral scholar is needed for funded research projects studying formulation strategies for topical and transdermal drug delivery, with an emphasis on microneedle systems. The projects will encompass multiple concepts including pharmacokinetics, drug formulation, skin imaging, chemistry, animal models, ex vivo skin models, and tissue processing to address key questions. Some projects may include working with human research subjects.
The selected candidate is expected to work independently while interacting in a collaborative environment, also assisting with design and execution of the experiments of junior laboratory members and student research assistants. The scholar should be self-motivated and will be responsible for design, collection, and analysis of research data, maintaining log books, troubleshooting experiments, and training graduate students and research assistants. The scholar will also be responsible for preparation of manuscripts related to his/her work and will strive to obtain their own grant funding if possible mechanisms exist.
The Division of Pharmaceutics and Translational Therapeutics consists of faculty members with expertise in pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenomics, experimental therapeutics, biomaterials, pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry and drug delivery. The Division is home to two Ph.D. subtracks, one focused in Pharmaceutics and the other in the Clinical Pharmaceutical Sciences; more than 50 graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and visiting scientists participate in the educational and research programs within the division, and the College of Pharmacy enrolls over 400 students in the Pharm.D. professional degree program.

At the time of appointment the applicant must have a Ph.D. with relevant research training in pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical or chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related field
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong history of scholarship, including peer-reviewed publications of original research
Previous experience with human research studies
Desirable technical abilities include:
- Use of microneedles for skin drug delivery studies
- Dermatology research techniques including tape stripping, use of a dermatome, and studies using diffusion cells
- OCT skin imaging
- LC-MS/MS experience
- Nanoparticle formulation experience
- Strong training in animal handling
Relevant postdoctoral experience
