The Dean of the School of Business is the Chief Academic Officer reporting directly to the Provost and working in collaboration with the Dean of the College of Engineering, Business, and Education. The appointee will extensively interact with the College's school Directors and should have professional accomplishments or documented interests spanning at least two of them. The incumbent should have academic accomplishments sufficient to be appointed a full professor in the School of Business.

In conjunction with the School of Business faculty, staff and senior university administration, the Dean is responsible for the effective delivery of educational programs, increasing research, growing entrepreneurial activity, creating opportunities for students, and fostering a collaborative spirit in the School, consistent with the Mission of the University of Bridgeport and the School of Business.

The Dean provides representation and visibility in the community and leadership in identifying and hosting relevant community leaders and activities on campus. The Dean has general administrative responsibility for the School, including its compliance with accreditation standards, community outreach, fundraising, marketing and enrollment, interdisciplinary initiatives, global outreach, and the effective management of its administrative and financial affairs.

The Dean serves at the pleasure of the President and works collaboratively within the College of Engineering, Business and Education, an integrated body formed in August 2018 by uniting the School of Engineering, School of Business and School of Education. Faculty members of these units serve as a single faculty of this College, and as members at the institutional level in the Ernest C. Trefz School of Business.

PRIMARY DUTIES INCLUDE:

Preparation of a strategic plan for the School Business undergraduate and graduate curricula, staffing of the School with faculty whose credentials meet or exceed the standards for the professoriate, and prepare a plan for the School of Business to be admitted (after a period of planning and development) to the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
Maintaining ACBSP accreditation. Serve as designee (or one of University's designees) to the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) with regard to the School of Business as well as other relevant professional, state and regional accrediting and regulatory agencies.
Annual submission of updated strategic plan for the redevelopment of the School of Business identifying its areas of excellence and potential excellence including but not limited to programs, faculty and facilities.
Development of enrollment goals (three years), a resource development plan and a strategy for regional outreach.
Preparation of a proposed operating budget for the School of Business and monitor all financial transactions relative to the School of Business.
Oversee and monitor facilities and maintenance for the School of Business.
Recommend to the Provost hiring, reappointment, rank, promotion and tenure of School faculty and advise the Provost on termination recommendations of faculty.
Supervision and management of all non-faculty personnel within the School of Business.
Represent the School of Business on the Provost's Council and other appropriate University committees and insure the full integration of the School of Business within the University of Bridgeport.
Approve and assist in developing all public relations and marketing materials relative to the School of Business as well as establish, together with the Vice President for Enrollment Management, enrollment goals and cooperate with that office in achieving them.
Provide leadership for the School of Business for fund-raising and grant writing in conjunction with the Office of Advancement, and represent the School of Business at professional, public relations and fund raising events.
Publish, as schedule permits time for research, and encourage the School of Business faculty to publish, in University, regional or professional publications as is appropriate to your discipline.
Serve as the Ex-officio member on all School of Business committees (except the School Personnel Committee).
Collaborate with the other deans and directors on shared programming, faculty, facilities and other relevant areas.
From time to time travel may be required, including internationally.
Be available for other duties as assigned by the Provost or the President.
Required and Preferred Education and Experience

An earned Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in a discipline represented within the School of Business
Preference includes attainment of at least one earned degree at a AACSB accredited institution
At least ten years of progressively responsible administrative experience at the university level
At least three years of significant administrative experience including direct supervision of budgetary, curriculum, and faculty management issues
Experience maintaining accreditation through AACSB
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of innovation and current trends in business education
Knowledge of innovative curricula and instruction, including use of technology for instruction, course re-design, service learning, and study abroad
Knowledge of degree programs for graduate students, traditional, and non-traditional adult students
Ability to develop and implement successful enrollment growth strategies
Ability to develop financial resources through relationship-building
Strong participative leadership style with propensity for collaboration
Ability to manage available resources to achieve goals
