Position Description


Advertised Job Summary

The University of South Carolina Sumter is seeking a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor to teach undergraduate courses in mathematics and/or statistics beginning August 16, 2019 or January 1, 2020.

The successful candidate will have at least 9 months of experience teaching introductory undergraduate courses in mathematics and/or statistics classes (such as College Algebra, Business Calculus, Calculus, and Elementary Statistics), effective communication skills, willingness to work with diverse populations, a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in traditional, distance, and online learning environments, and the ability to maintain a healthy level of professional activity in scholarship and service. The teaching load is twelve credit hours per semester, primarily of freshmen- or sophomore-level courses, with the opportunity for release time for scholarship. Student advising and participation on campus committees are expected.

USC Sumter is part of USC’s Palmetto College (http://www.sc.edu/palmettocollege/), which involves offering some four-year degrees through multiple forms of course delivery and learning, such as two-way video delivery (videoconferencing) and online learning (Blackboard or similar course management system).

Required Education and Experience

An earned doctorate in Mathematics, Mathematics Education or Statistics at time of appointment is required by the beginning date of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate should be qualified to teach both Mathematics and Statistics, thus at least 18 graduate hours in each field is preferred.
