Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking a Senior Associate Dean. Reporting to the (Senior) Executive Director, the Senior Associate Dean provides strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of academic programs at Southern New Hampshire University's online programs The Senior Associate Dean possesses broad knowledge of the assigned academic unit and specific knowledge of the needs, strengths, challenges and solutions that support the health and success of programs and students within an academic unit. 

The Senior Associate Dean is absolutely committed to maximizing the likelihood of student success in high quality academic programs. The Senior Associate Dean is responsible for ensuring alignment with the mission and goals of the online programs and the University. The person working in this role is well-versed in, and connected to the national conversation regarding higher education, particularly around student outcomes, general education, workforce needs and different learning modalities such as competency-based education. In addition to being well-informed about higher education administration and learning models, s/he will engage with SNHU leadership as to how best to move towards the next evolution of higher education learning environments. To be successful s/he must "know how to build the box and when to think outside of it". 

The Senior Associate Dean ensures that programs and courses are of high quality and are aligned with the programmatic vision as established by the Chief Academic Officer, and as enabled through the activities of the academic programs and other stakeholders within COCE and across SNHU. The Senior Associate Dean works in close collaboration with the associate deans and faculty (full time and adjunct), and the (Senior) Executive Director on the respective team. The Senior Associate Dean collaborates with Marketing, Workforce Partnerships, University Campus, Advising, Course Design and Development, Learning Resources, Center for Online Learning and Teaching, Outcomes and Assessment, and other SNHU departments to ensure that programs are healthy, growing, vibrant and present students with an interoperable environment that maximizes the opportunity for student success. 

The Senior Associate Dean will lead a team of academic staff which includes Associate Deans (of Programs and Faculty), as assigned, as well as full- and part- time faculty. As part of this team, the Senior Associate Dean is responsible for implementing and overseeing activities that drive student engagement, student experience and student learning.

Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following: 

Strategy Alignment and Implementation:

  • Work across the organization as appropriate to identify strategies, needs, and impacts with new programs and innovations

  • Collaborate to support the effective implementation of initiatives and processes associated with SNHU strategic and operational commitments and goals

  • Engage in capacity planning and resource allocation toward the goal of supporting and prioritizing strategic initiatives and project requests

  • Engage with project management support to track, monitor, and manage strategic initiatives to assure the achievement of key benchmarks and performance indicators

Quality Control and Assurance:

  • Assist in establishing standard operating procedures for programs and innovations with University departments

  • Ensure that program outcomes and courses are high quality and are appropriately rigorous

  • Engage in best-practices that provide a best-in-class student experience, toward the goal of continuously improving student success and satisfaction

  • Collaborate with instructional and curriculum design team to ensure learning theory and best practices are applied to program and course development

  • Oversee and approve selection of subject matter experts for program development and support of innovative initiatives

  • Coordinate efforts with Faculty Recruiting and the Center for Online Learning and Teaching (COLT) to provide effective faculty training and evaluation toward the goal of hiring and maintaining a pool of highly effective faculty

  • Ensure that designated programs meet programmatic and NEASC regional accreditation standards

  • Analyze and interpret data that informs decision making to support program health and success

Stakeholder Relationship Management:

  • Serve as the liaison between the respective academic unit and other appropriate SNHU departments including admissions, advising, career, Workforce Partnerships, College for America, etc. toward the goal of ensuring strategic goals are met

  • Ensure the clear and effective communication of initiatives, expectations, goals etc. to the appropriate internal and external stakeholders

  • Develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders in order to create the interconnectedness of teams toward the goal of building a strong and focused organization

Building an Orientation to the Future:

  • Conduct environmental scanning and research in collaboration with internal and external partners such as Sandbox, Advisory Boards, Admissions, etc. to determine trends and inform actions that will drive the future success of an interoperable institution

  • Connect with stakeholders throughout the organization to ensure smooth implementation and to establish standard operating procedures for new programs and innovations

  • Collaborate with marketing department to analyze emerging opportunities in other potential programs and related innovations

Developing High-Functioning Teams:

  • Manage, lead, and support high-performing, motivated teams of academic and support staff

  • Triage issues to the appropriate team members as necessary

  • Create a culture of motivation, support, success and results on respective teams that is aligned to the SNHU culture

  • Provide professional development for team members that support their individual and institutional goals

  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration across units

Implementing a Culture of Excellence:

  • Support a culture of excellence within people and processes within the academic unit

  • Ensure role clarity, change resilience, success-mindedness and role-mastery among team members

  • Work with project teams to build capacity through focus on value-add activities, reduction of process "waste" and reducing process variation

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in discipline or related discipline

  • 2-3 years of related experience working in a similar role

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in online program curriculum and development

  • Demonstrated experience making data driven decisions

  • Demonstrated leadership over large, complex projects and change management

  • Demonstrated experience leading a team

  • Demonstrated experience in implementing systems and processes for improvement

  • Understanding of the higher education environment, the basics of learning science, key business drivers in higher education and strategic planning

  • Demonstrated skill at anticipating long term impacts of actions

  • Ability to apply knowledge and experience to the broader environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate or terminal degree preferred

  • Possess a technical background through degree and/or work experience

Work Hours:

  • Typically Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with flexibility to meet business demands as needed. Attendance at special events, such as graduation required.
