Grace College invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Engineering who will hold the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Responsibilities include teaching, advising, department and university service, scholarly activity, and professional development.

Grace College is a Christ-centered Liberal Arts College informed by pietist and evangelical traditions. Located in the resort community of Winona Lake, near Warsaw, Indiana (36 miles west of Ft. Wayne), Grace College offers 52 academic majors (38 minors). Central to the mission is developing character, sharpening competence, and preparing for service. Our goal in Christian living and teaching is to make Christ preeminent in all things. The programs of the college, as well as its community lifestyle commitment, are designed to encourage serious academic inquiry, a biblical worldview, spiritual understanding, and social conscience, all in the context of God's grace.

Grace is currently hosting a cooperative engineering program run by an area university. The successful candidate will develop a new Grace engineering department that builds on a current enrollment of about sixty students. The chair will develop curriculum, recruit and mentor new faculty, help recruit and encourage students, and build bridges with area orthopaedic industries. The new Department of Engineering will be one of five departments housed within the School of Arts and Sciences. Grace is also keen on seeking ABET accreditation for the new department.

Qualifications: This position offers a challenging opportunity to a faculty member with both academic and industry experience who seeks to build a new department. The successful candidate will have:

  • A PhD in mechanical engineering or an allied field

  • Administrative experience

  • Evidence of excellence in teaching with a minimum of five years at the college level

  • Experience in course design and curriculum development

  • At least five years of industry experience

  • A desire to integrate faith with learning in all areas of life

  • A willingness to collaborate with colleagues and students

  • Evidence of relevant scholarship

Application Process: Applications may be found at www.grace.edu/about/employment/faculty/staff-applications

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The start date for this position is January 2018, though this is negotiable. The Grace College Department of Engineering will begin accepting students in the fall of 2018.
