Job Summary

The Department of Chemistry at Gettysburg College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 2018. The candidate is expected to contribute to introductory-level courses as well as courses at the upper level in the candidate’s area of expertise and should develop a dynamic research program in physical chemistry, broadly defined, involving undergraduates. Responsibilities include teaching five courses per year, which could be either classroom or laboratory courses; conducting research with undergraduates on-campus; helping to maintain departmental instrumentation; and actively participating in the governance of the department and college. The successful candidate may also have opportunities to teach in the broader college curriculum through interdisciplinary courses and our First-Year Seminar program.

We seek an individual who has a genuine interest in teaching, scholarship, and advising/mentoring, within the liberal arts. Candidates must have a doctorate (or be ABD) in chemistry or a closely allied field. Postdoctoral research experience and/or college-level teaching experience are preferred. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who can demonstrate through their teaching, scholarship or governance that they can contribute to the diversity and inclusive excellence of our community.

Special Instructions to Applicants

Submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy and experience, a statement of current and future research plans, and current email addresses for at least three professional references. Please limit the CV to four pages, the research statement to four pages, and the teaching statement to two pages. Professional references will be contacted by Gettysburg College to submit letters of recommendation electronically. Applications and letters of recommendation received by October 1 will be given fullest consideration, but submissions will continue to be reviewed until the position is filled. Inquiries can be addressed to Professor Tim Funk at tfunk@gettysburg.edu.
