The University of California, Merced is a dynamic new university campus in Merced, California, which opened in September 2005 as the tenth campus of the University of California and the first American research university in the 21st century. A postdoctoral position is available in the research group of David F. Kelley to utilize ultrafast spectroscopy and other optical techniques to study the photophysics and photochemistry of semiconductor nanocrystals. The position involves nanocrystal synthesis, optical measurements, and spectroscopic modeling. The successful candidate will synthesize nanocrystals with a variety of compositions, sizes, shapes, and surface chemistries, measure their static and time-resolved spectra and computationally model these spectra to determine the excited state dynamics and chemical reactivities.

Qualifications for this position is a recent Ph.D. in physical or materials chemistry or a closely related field and an excellent publication record. Experience in semiconductor nano-crystal synthesis and/or laser spectroscopy.
Salary is based on the University of California Academic Salary Scales. This position is contingent upon receiving proper funding.
