Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo (UHH), Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy (DKICP), Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, located in Hilo, Hawai‘i.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY:  $3,222/Mon. 

DUTIES:  Responsible for the synthesis and structure activity relationships (SAR) development of novel anti-microbial agents, which are based on related small molecules and/or emerging natural product leads. Analyzes and interprets data collected. Writes manuscripts, reports, and grants. Assists in managing the day-to-day organization of the laboratory’s research program in the areas of organic and medicinal chemistry. 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  PhD or Doctorate from an accredited college or university in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or related field.  EXPERIENCE:  Two to four (2-4) years of experience with organic and medicinal chemistry, multi-step organic synthesis related to small molecule or natural product, and/or SAR; experience includes graduate thesis work.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Strong background in multi-step organic synthesis.  Scientific writing to prepare manuscripts, reports and grant proposals.  Understanding of pharmaceutical science. Professional communication skills, including written and oral.  General computer skills, using numerous software programs:  Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access); Endnote.
