Job Description Novartis Institute of Biomedical Research is seeking an expert in small molecule oncology drug discovery to join our Oncology Disease Area (DA) in Cambridge MA. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team of scientists in the Oncology group, playing a key role in the development of new therapies for cancer. 

An ideal candidate would meld a deep understanding of cancer biology with experience in small molecule drug discovery to lead drug discovery projects from inception to the clinic. They will be responsible for the leadership and mentoring associates through direct and matrixed reporting structures. 

Key to success will be the ability to lead, coach, motivate and communicate within a complex multidisciplinary environment.

Minimum requirements Successful candidates will have a PhD in the life sciences and a comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of Oncology research, particularly related to industrial drug discovery and development as evidenced by a minimum of 8 years industry experience. 

Thorough familiarity and demonstrated experience with all aspects of small molecule drug discovery and clear examples of innovation within the field. 

• A strong publication record is essential. 
• Proven ability to lead multi-discipline drug discovery project teams, including the ability to coach and mentor. 
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated and scientifically driven, proficient reasoning skills demonstrated in the context of early-though late stage preclinical drug discovery. 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to provide timely and open feedback. 
• Demonstrated ability to present drug discovery project updates to senior management and executive boards.
