Postdoctoral Position Available

Postdoctoral positions funded through a T32 training grant are currently available to trainees who have received doctoral degrees and wish to pursue careers in clinical, translational, and basic science research in rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases research.

The Training Program should include both a well-defined research program that emphasizes science relevant to NIAMS and more specifically, rheumatic and/or musculoskeletal diseases, and T32-specific mentoring and educational efforts that foster continued development of the trainee in research in NIAMS mission areas.  Research projects can be chosen from among the laboratories of nearly 100 of the 242 CAMBAC faculty mentors.  The CAMBAC mission has six research foci from which to choose (https://www.uab.edu/medicine/camac/research) and we will facilitate pairing applicants with an appropriate mentor(s).

Application Requirements:  The candidate must be a US citizen or permanent resident.  Candidate must have received, as of the beginning date of the NRSA appointment, a Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., or comparable doctoral degree from an accredited domestic or foreign institution (D.M.D., D.C., D.O., D.V.M., O.D., D.P.M., Sc.D., Eng.D., Dr. P.H., D.N.Sc., D.P.T., Pharm.D., N.D. (Doctor of Naturopathy), D.S.W., Psy.D, as well as a doctoral degree in nursing research).  Positions are made on an annual basis with additional opportunities for continued funding with sufficient progress.  Successful candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to an academic research career.  Contact Dr. Carol A. Ballinger, carolballinger@uabmc.edu to facilitate the application process.

Available:  Amount of award is dependent on the applicant’s experience and follows NIH guidelines for NRSA stipend levels, $1,000 in travel funds and affiliated health insurance, tuition and fees.

Postdoc Awards and Benefits

Competitive postdoc awards are available including internships, grant incentives, funds to enhance education and collaboration outside UAB, and teaching opportunities at local universities. There is also a Postdoc Research Day with monetary awards. The OPE strongly encourages UAB research mentors to follow the National Research Service Award stipend level guidelines, and postdoctoral scholars qualify for health, life, and other insurances. They enjoy vacation, sick leave, maternity/paternity leave, and other benefits.
